For you to be able to drive any commercial bus, coach or lorry in the UK, you will be required to have the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). This is taken in addition to the vocational driver’s license and is meant to train drivers on how to handle different situations and conditions on the UK streets. The CPC came as a directive from the European Union in the year 2003 and has been operating since then. You will have to take CPC training courses before you are certified by the many training centers there are in the United Kingdom.

The Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training was formed right after the CPC was implemented. JAUPT was formed to regulate the way CPC training courses are offered by various centers in the UK. An auditor from this approval unit is sent to a newly set up or existing CPC training courses center to ensure they meet the right standards when offering their services.

The auditor is also handed the task of inspecting how a center handles documentation. These could be records of the delivered training, the record’s accuracy and many more factors that show how well organized the center is.

An auditor will also visit a center to review the general management when offering CPC training courses. This may include the procedures a center uses to check identity of drivers, how the central driver recording database is handled, quality of assurance and other related factors.

The CPC training courses administrator may also be asked to take the auditor through a specific course administration process. This will show the auditor whether the CPC training courses are effective after which they will determine whether to approve the center or not. To ensure safety of drivers and passengers, the auditors will be strict when investigating a center and the slightest mistake that compromises the quality of the services being offered could have a center’s license cancelled.

Once all this is done, the data collected from the center is taken to JAUPT offices which are located in Milton Keynes and analyzed by professionals, after which a feedback will be sent to the center in form of a report. There are various instances when a follow up quality assurance audit may be necessary.

Before you decide to work with any CPC training courses center, it is wise to first find out whether they offer JAUPT approved courses as this will not only assure you of quality training but will also put you on the right side of the law as it is unlawful to drive a commercial bus, coach or lorry with a Certificate of Professional Competence from an unapproved service provider. Take your time and find out more about CPC training courses center from the internet and see whether they are the right ones to work with. You also need to note that certificates for different businesses will have their prices varying. CPC training courses, for instance, the Huge Goods Vehicles (HGV), which usually deals with huge loads such as food or coal, will cost you more than Passenger Carrying Vehicles (PCV).
